Happy to announce my 30-minute play Recipe for a Riot Grrrl is being produced by the New Ideas Festival in Toronto, March 22-26th, 2023. Directed by Dora-award winner Ian Prinsloo. Plot: When the leader of a ’90s Riot Grrrl band decides to quit and become a baker, her sister and bandmate fights to save their feminist punk rock dream. Will the “Filthy Sonic Surfer Girls” ride again, or is “Revolution Girl Style Now” just fair-trade chocolate and silicone bakeware?
We have a terrific cast in Lawrie Carruthers-Hopkinson and Natalie Stephenson–expertly aided by assistant director John Acuna.
Tickets are available via Arts People at the budget-friendly price of $15. Also featured in the evening are 3 other short new works.
Location: The Alumnae Theatre, 70 Berkeley St., Toronto, ON, near King St. and Adelaide. Ride the King St. streetcar or park nearby on Adelaide St., just east of the theatre.
Many thanks to Pat McCarthy, Carolyn Zapf, and the Alumnae Theatre for their support of an earlier version of this play in the WriteNow competition 2020.
