I’m a writer, performer, instructor, and occasional cartoonist. What ties my passions together? I love to create “aha” moments of shared insight and empathy between people. A frequent theme in my work is the primal human drive for connection and belonging. I also enjoy leveraging humour to challenge people’s perspectives on contemporary behaviour, culture, and socio-political issues. I want to make audiences think and feel and come out unable to see things quite the same way as before.
I’m a member of the Playwrights Guild of Canada. My training includes a Ph.D. specializing in drama; playwriting courses with Marcia Johnson, Beverly Cooper, Chris Tolley and Laura Mullin; drawing at the Toronto School of Art and Art Gallery of Ontario; singing and voice with Sue Crowe Connelly; and recently, an acting master class with R.H. Thomson. For many years I was also a senior writing instructor at the University of Toronto. I’ve received several major grants for my writing projects, including a Toronto Arts Council grant for theatre writing.
